Growth and magnetic properties of oriented alpha-[Fe.sub.2][O.sub.3] nanorods
Article Abstract:
A study reports the growth of oriented alpha-[Fe.sub.2][O.sub.3] nanorods on Si substrates using metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). Structural analyses reveal that alpha-[Fe.sub.2][O.sub.3] nanorods are preferentially oriented in the [104] direction on Si(100) substrates, and the nanorod possesses the single-crystalline structure.

Growth of well-aligned carbon nanotube structures in successive layers
Article Abstract:
Layered structures of well-aligned carbon nanotubes were grown using three variations of vapor-phase chemical vapor deposition growth processes. Layers were grown with thicknesses ranging from several microns to several hundred microns, and structures were grown with well over 100 layers.

Gas sensor array based on metal-decorated carbon nanotubes
Article Abstract:
Design, fabrication, and testing of electronic sensor array based on single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) is demonstrated. The differences in catalytic activity of 18 catalytic metals for detection of H2, CH4, CO, and H2S gases are observed.
